William asks…

Places To Live in Australia?

Hi Everyone

I am trying to find a place in Australia that isn’t to hot and isn’t to cold. The place I am living in now gets quite humid in summer and is freezing in winter. After being here for almost 3 years I am now trying to find a place that will be better for my kids health. My youngest has been quite sick for 4 weeks now and we haven’t even hit winter yet and my sons asthma always plays up in the winter.

The other reason for trying to find somewhere warmer is the fact that having to run the heaters all day over winter is crippling on the electricity bill but I will never compromise my kids health.

Thanks for the help :-)
At the moment we live about 35km outside toowoomba, We used to live on the Gold Coast but moved because the air really affected my daughters asthma. Since moving out here we have not had any problems with her.
Also my partner can basically get work anywhere there is a road as he has a Traffic controllers ticket but at the moment it is QLD registered.

Charles asks…

Would it be a good idea to have the H1N1 (Swine Flu) Jab/Shot?

I am on the priority list for the shot. This means that i am overweight, have mild asthma and i have a poor immune system and liver function. I will definitely have the chance to have the vaccine within the next few weeks and i’d just like to know what others think of the vaccine. Here are a few facts i want you to bear in mind before replying.

This vaccine was made much faster than some other vaccines because a prototype vaccine was already being produced in anticipation of Bird Flu. All they needed to do was change 2 proteins to make this vaccine effective against H1N1 instead of H5N1.

Millions have already had the shots in Wales, England, Germany, Australia and America, including doctors, professors, nurses and highly educated and informed healthcare workers.

You have more chance of getting Guillian-Barre syndrome from contracting Flu than you do when getting the vaccine. The stats are 40/1,000,000,000 get it “naturally” whereas 2/1,000,000,000 people get it after vaccines.

14 million people in England including frontline health workers (and my mum) and at risk people will get the jab.

In your response, please clarify why you might/might not get the vaccine. And feel free to correct me. I am just interested to know whether everyone online takes the view of fanatical nutcases who think this is some worldwide culling program or mind control Blah Blah Blah…

I am personally not against getting the vaccine, and want my children to get it because they are both under 5 years old and this flu is more deadly to children than the regular flu.
However, the death toll for swine flu seems to be about the same as the usual seasonal flu, so I believe the vaccine hype may be more of a political hype than an actual necessity for everyone. I do not however believe that there are any outstanding health risks that come from receiving the vaccine, as the following sources will demonstrate, when read from a fact seeking, unbiased point of view.

The first is the only non-article related source written by a family health practitioner. However, it is a very “balanced presentation of facts – no fear mongering in either direction” (as stated first and foremost) and the information is cited very well with links.

Second, an article about the US boy that developed the rare Guillain-Barre syndrome after getting the vaccine. It’s most important to look at the numbers/statistics in the presented information about the chance of this negative effect vs. Death from swine flu, not so much the emotional statements made by the fearful vaccine nay-sayers.

Third, a recent article (today) about the updated statistic for confirmed swine flu deaths in America (they are not accurately tracking this anymore, which basically means it is AT LEAST this number, no less, but in actuality may be many more.)

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33881535/ns/health-cold_and_flu

Fourth, article on London statistics for Guillian-Barre related vaccine activity as of Oct. 30th.

Lastly, if you want A LOT more answers on whether or not people feel they will or will not get the vaccine, read the forums for said articles for hundreds more comments (:”Newsvine”)

Hope this helps~
